Internships

Internships for College credits are offered through EARTH Ltd

Southwick's Zoo and EARTH Ltd work together to provide an Internship Program for college students looking to work towards college credits in zoology or a related field.

Internships are offered year round, however during the summer months, we can accommodate a higher number of interns.  (Please contact Tiffany Perreault at 1-800-258-9182 x 208 or tiffany@southwickszoo.com  for more information)  As a an intern in a very busy non-profit organization, you will be asked to wear a lot of different hats—for example, you may be asked to clean cages, show animals to visitors, direct visitors throughout the zoo, enter data into zoo computers, draft documents for zoo use, or observe animals for zoo personnel.  Thus, the kind of person who will gain the most from his or her internship is someone who is flexible, dependable, responsible, self-motivated, and with a good sense of humor.  Remember that in the world of education and entertainment, the unpredictable is to be expected.  Be ready to change strategies quickly as need be for different occasions.

Among those additional tasks is the completion of a project or projects for the zoo or EARTH.  One way to think of your internship is as a mutual service project—the zoo and EARTH are providing you with some opportunities to learn more about zoo operations, animal care, and informal environmental education, while you are providing the zoo with your labor and talent.  Also, many of our interns earn college or other school credit for their internship experiences.  Having a tangible project to complete not only provides the zoo with a direct benefit from your service, but also gives you a set of materials to present to your home institution as part of documenting your credit-bearing experience.

We are now accepting applications for EARTH Ltd. Internship.  Send completed application forms (click on link to download)  download intern application  along with a copy of your resume and a letter of recommendation to:
