Summer 2017 Educational Programs at Southwick’s Zoo

Summer Wild Adventure Programs

Make your child’s summer vacation a wild adventure with these programs featuring daily activities, games, and more! Students will learn about the many animals found in our zoo and even meet a few up close. Wild Adventure Program weeks range from the shorter Introduction to Animal Ecology for younger children in K-2 to Teen Zoology for children in grades 5-8 interested in careers relating to zoology and animal care.

Junior ZooKeeping

This program, starting in June, offers children a behind the scenes look at how we care for our animals. Junior ZooKeepers assist with animal care tasks including preparing diets, cleaning, and creating enrichment! Sessions are available for children ages 6-16 and cover the following topics: Herbivores, Carnivore, Primates, and Birds.

Rhino Encounters

Meet our white rhinos, Thelma and Louise, while you also support rhino conservation! Rhino Encounters provide participants the unique opportunity to get close to and even touch our rhinos. All proceeds from these encounters are donated to rhinoceros conservation. Last year we raised $15,120 through encounters and 100% of the proceeds were donated to Project Rhino KZN!

Right now dates are only available through May, but we will add June encounter dates soon.

*All rhino encounter participants must be at least 12 years of age. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a paid adult.
