Pet Meets Baby

Whether you are pregnant, adopting, or fostering a child, this workshop will help you learn important steps to prepare your dog, cat, and other pets for the arrival of a new baby. You’ll hear practical tips, helpful strategies, and trusted resources that can be implemented right away. Preparing your pets early greatly increases the chances of a smooth and successful transition for everyone in your household.

For many families, pets are truly the “first baby” and are accustomed to receiving constant attention and affection. The arrival of a newborn naturally changes routines, and pets can sense and react to these shifts. It’s also important to understand that infants appear very different to animals—new sounds, movements, and smells can be unfamiliar and confusing. Even the most loving and well-behaved pets are naturally curious, making thoughtful preparation essential.

By participating in this workshop, you’ll learn how to safely desensitize your pet(s), manage interactions, and set healthy boundaries during times when attention or access needs to be limited. You’ll also receive guidance on helping your child grow up pet-friendly, along with many other practical tips. Attendees will receive take-home materials for future reference.
